Structured Cabling Definition

Structured cabling refers to a standardized way of installing and connecting the cables that allow computers and other electronics to communicate and network together. Structured cabling is widely used in data centres  campuses, offices, apartment buildings, hospitals, warehouses, manufacturing facilities, etc. and is based on two types of cables: copper for final distribution and fibre optics for building to building links. Over the years leading manufacturers and organizations developed many structured cabling standards, such as the TIA/EIA Commercial Building Telecommunications Cabling Standard.

Cable categories and fibre optic cabling technologies change very fast, as the need for more bandwidth increases. Expansion bandwidth is available with each of these systems, however this will be reflected on decisions made by the client prior to equipment installation and will depend on the required application requested and budget.
